UNITED KINGDOM – Extension of Pre-Entry TB Screening to Vietnam, Uganda and Ethiopia from 30 June 2013

The UK government made an announcement in May 2012 that pre-entry tuberculosis (TB) screening would be extended to 67 countries on the basis of World Health Organisation figures of high TB incidence. Vietnam, Uganda and Ethiopia are the latest countries to which screening is being rolled out, with effect from 30 June 2013.

Who Has To Undergo TB Screening?

Those who wish to travel to the UK for longer than six months must be screened and a certificate obtained from an approved clinic to demonstrate that they are free of TB before making a UK visa application in the categories listed above.

Additional Fees for TB Tests

The fee for the diagnostic tests will be USD$70 - $90, payable in USD or local currency. The certificate will usually be valid for six months.

What Happens To Those Who Test Positive?

Those who test positive for TB will be referred for treatment, and will not be permitted to travel to the UK until they are able to demonstrate that they are free of TB.
