BRAZIL – Suspension of Brazil – Colombia Agreement at Federal Police

The agreement between Brazil and Colombia, whereby applications for residence permits from Colombian nationals were accepted by the Federal Police in Brazil in accordance with the MERCOSUR agreement (see our alert here) has been suspended.

This means that work permits and work visas will still be required for Colombians to work in Brazil until further notice.

Action Items

  • Note that Colombian nationals are NOT currently eligible for temporary Vitem V (VIRET) visas under the MERCOSUR agreement in Brazil. Work permits and work visas are still required.
