GHANA – Increased Enforcement of Immigration Compliance

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has increased its enforcement efforts with random visits to offices to check immigration compliance. It is recommended that foreign nationals carry proof of their immigration status with them at all times.

Action Points

  • It is recommended that foreign nationals working in Ghana carry their passport, residence permit and non-citizen ID card at all times.
  • For business visa holders it is advisable to have a copy of the invitation letter detailing the purpose of their visit, in addition to their passport, and their non-citizen ID card if relevant.
  • It is also highly advisable to request to see some identification from anyone claiming to be GIS officers in order to avoid fraudsters.
